Jackson's Rite of Passage

With Zach Bates married and working in law enforcement, Lawson Bates developing his music career, and Trace Bates running Lawson's lawn mowing business, Gil Bates is in need of more manpower to run the family tree business.

Learning the basics of tree work is a rite of passage for the Bates boys. In this week's new episode, fourteen-year-old Jackson Bates joins Gil and Nathan Bates (Gil's right-hand man) on a job (video below).

Bringing Up Bates "You Can't Spell Paintball without PAIN" airs Thursday at 9pm ET/8pm CT.

  2. Is a 14 year old allowed to do this kind of dangerous work? Aren't there any restrictions, shouldn't he be at least 16?

    1. I'm not sure, but often there are exceptions to labor laws when it's a family business.

    2. I'm sure they won't have him doing the most dangerous work right away. He'll need experience first. But in tree cutting there's a lot of work he could do now.

  3. Jackson is a handsome kid and he sure has grown tall. Not sure about the age thing. Maybe if he just hangs out at the job sites he will start picking it up. Hopefully they won't have him doing anything too dangerous yet.
