Bates House Fire

"I wake up, and the fire alarm is going off, and Jeb is saying, 'Lawson, the laundry room is on fire, and Judson is in there.'"
-Lawson Bates

This Thursday on Bringing Up Bates, the Bates are caught off-guard when their laundry room erupts into flames. Lawson and Trace jump into emergency mode and order everyone to leave the house, but when they find out Judson is in the laundry room, what they were hoping was a small, contained fire quickly escalates into a life-or-death situation (promo video below).

  2. Lily and Ellie,
Do you know the condition of the family or their house?

    2. If they were not fine, we would have heard something in the news.

  3. Don't get me wrong, I like this family well enough, but what the heck is a little kid like Judson doing AWAKE at 5am and in a laundry room? Why isn't this kid in his bed asleep? Please tell why.

    1. He said he got HOME at five o'clock not that he woke up at five. Hope that clears it up for you :)

    2. Little kids get out of bed during the night all the time. Maybe he was getting an extra blacnkey?

    3. I think Lawson said he went back home from a concert at 5am (and went to bed), the fire probably happened much later.

    4. 5am is when Lawson returned home, not the time the fire broke out.

    5. The fire didn't start at 5am, that was just when Lawson got home from his concert.

    6. I am not sure of your age, but being a mother and grandmother I can tell you that children do strange and unbelievable things when you are not looking. You can be guaranteed that a child will pull something you don't expect. You cannot watch them 24/7. You just do your absolute best and trust God to guide you through.

    7. Lawson said he got home at 5 AM and went to sleep..... it doesn't say what time he work up

    8. It doesn't say it happened at 5 a.m., Lawson got home at 5 and went to bed. He was awakened later. If you watch the video, it is daylight and the smoke is coming out.

    9. If he is anything like my son was he may have had an accident and was taking his wet clothes/blankets/sheets to the laundry room.

    10. He may have been awaken by the smoke, and went down to investigate.

    11. It's not unusual for a child to wake up early... I don't know many kids that sleep past 6 or so at that age. And if their clothes were kept there then that isn't that hard to figure out.

    12. It wasn't at 5am. Lawson got home at 5am and went to sleep. He was woken up so who knows when it was and anyways, little kids wake up really early and try to be independent. Who knows what he was doing.

    13. Where does it say this incident occurred at 5 a.m. It looks like it occurred in broad daylight. They have all mentioned that Lawson's sleeping habits are different than there's with him doing shows at night.

    14. Perhaps you have never had children, or maybe didn't have curious children. They all come with a free will, despite how well you train them. This has nothing to do with the parents or caregivers. God was a perfect father and there all the time yet His kids (Adam and Eve) still got into trouble. We do our best and pray the rest!

    15. LOL - that is how some kids roll. I would have given anything if mine had slept until 5 am.

    16. Lawson got home at 5am and went to bed, but the fire didn't happen until later that morning.

  5. Lily and Ellie,

Could you guys please do a post about the Bates kids that are in college right now? From observing social media, it looks like Tori, Carlin, and Josie are all taking college classes. I know Tori is studying education. What are Carlin and Josie studying? And did Josie graduate high school already?

Thanks so much and I look forward to learning more about this soon!

Do you know the exact date the fire broke out or the cause of the fire?

    1. It was from tbe forests fires. My sister and Carlin go to college together.

    2. Sorry, dear, but there is NO way the Gatlinburg forest fires had anything to do with a fire in the Bateses laundry room. Their house is about an hour an a half from Gatlinburg. I live in Knoxville, 45 minutes from Gatlinburg snd while there was some smoke blowing in (MINOR) it was fine. Ifvthey claim it was part of the Gatlinburg fires, they are liars. I toured Gatlinburg after the fires. It was devastating for so many people. Not the Bates family

      Delete
    3. They never said it was the forest fire they said it happened the same day 2 of their younger sons were playing with a lighter in their laundry room. They used the Gatlinburg fire as an example as to what could happen

  9. Perhaps, they did see some of the smoke from the Gatlinburg fires. That alone, would be horribly frightening.

Of course, it's not as bad as those whose homes were completely destroyed, but I'm sure it will still be unsettling to see it so close to your home - wondering if it might spread your way.

Whatever the incident, I'm just glad they are all fine.
