Bates on Skis

"It was crazy watching my little siblings learn how to ski. Some of them were just really good at it."
-Erin Bates Paine

Tomorrow on Bringing Up Bates, watch the Bates clan take on the slopes at Massanutten Resort in Virginia. It's their first time on skis, but they end up picking it up very quickly. Check out the sneak peek clip below.

  1. An honest question here: Is wearing a skirt over bulky snow pants really going to make a modicum of difference in the modesty department? I guess I just don't understand the extreme measures being taken here.

  2. Please Bates Family...you are making such great progress differentiating between legalistic man-made rules and a true Faith in Christ. We see control being lessened on "courting" as both Tori and now Carlin are dating well before making it officially official as Tori says! ( I know Tori is official now). Whitney and Alyssa wearing jeans, boys at sleep away camp! All good and harmless things. Now, please let the girls wear proper snow gear instead of skirts with leggings. The boys wore proper snow pants. And let's be honest snow pants are as modest as anyone can get!!

    1. It's not just about modesty, it's also about distinction between male and female (which has a Biblical basis to it). It may look funny to some of us, but I respect their right to dress in the way they see fit.

    2. I almost think that wearing the skirts over pants or leggings draws more attention to them than if they wore clothing more appropriate to the activity. Like when they were at the beach in skirts I noticed people staring at them but if they wore something like spandex workout shorts they wouldn't stand out as much and draw stares.

    3. 2:15 The Bible says nothing about skirts being more appropriate for females or that males should wear pants.

    4. Really @ 2:15? They are concerened about making sure strangers on ski slopes can differentiate between the male and female members of the family? That's ludicrous!

    5. "Biblical" attire/men wore long robes, not pants. . . . therefore that does not make sense for girls ONLY wearing skirts.
I respect their belief also, but pants during sports should not be considered disrespectful.

    6. No, but the Bible says that women shouldn't wear that which pertains to a man, and vice versa. That's wear the "no pants" thing comes from. Of course the Bible didn't specify pants, because they didn't wear pants when it was written. Again, I respect their commitment to live in a way that most people make fun of or don't understand as a way to express their love to God.

  3. That is so cool that they were at Massanutten Resort! I actually live around there and have been there before so it was awesome to see a familiar place on the videos!

  4. Some of them aren't wearing helmets!! This is safety rule #1. No responsible parent would allow their child to ski or snowboard without a helmet. Whether you are on a bunny slope or going up a lift, others are around you, and could crash into you and send you flying. Why risk a head injury???

  6. Why do only some of the kids have helmets on? The actress Natasha Richardson sustained a head injury from a fall while taking a beginner ski lesson back in 2009. She had no helmet on, and died from an epidural hematoma. She was 45 years old, and left behind a husband and two young sons. A head injury can happen to anyone. Remember: A beginner ski lesson only!

  7. I'm surprised about the Bates girls outfit for their "ski day".... Even Jill Duggar were only a ski trousers for a date to the mountains with Derick

  9. Enjoyed last night's show.
Curious: who cared for Carson & Brooklyn? I did not see Chad. . .. just wondered who watched them.

    1. Did not see Katie at all - not even when they were tubing. She most likely watched Carson & Brooklyn. . . . Erin has said in other situations how close she is to Katie.
