Bates' New Church Info

 Inside the Bates' church

Gil and Kelly Bates call their church plant, which they started a few years ago, an endeavor they had never anticipated.

Until July, they had been gathering in the conference room of a local hotel. We are thrilled to announce that after many months of hard work, the Bates are finally meeting in their new church building! They gave us the address so we can share it with our readers. They love visitors, so go ahead and stop by if you live in the area or are passing through.

  3. There's a long list (over 25) of Baptist churches in or near Andersonvlle, TN. I am curious as to why the Bates felt it necessary to "plant" another one. Do their beliefs differ from the other Baptist congregations?

    1. That's what I'd like to know. I'm in California, where a "church plant" is sometimes necessary to bring a different denomination into an area, but another Baptist church in Tennessee?

    2. Can never have too many churches! Always room for one more!

    3. I'm sure God laid it on their heart to do so, and if so God must have reasons for that. Also, there's a wide variety within the name "Baptist."

    4. They needed their own building because they were originally meeting in a conference room.

    5. I'm no longer religious, but I used to go to a Baptist church that was a "church plant." The reasoning behind church plants, according to my old pastor, is that newer churches attract more visitors than old churches, and by frequently creating "church plants", they can reach more people.

  6. Is it a valid question to ask what Gil's qualifications are to be a minister? I've read that he went from a job for a major corporation to his tree trimming business and now he appears to be a minister. I've heard nothing of him going to seminary yet he appears to preach and has even officiated at some of his kid's weddings. I sincerely do not mean to be negative but an curious about what is required in TN to be a minister with all the responsibilities and (tax) benefits.

    1. In my church none of our pastors have a pastoral degree. According to God's Word a pastor is supposed to be chosen by the congregation out of the people in the church. Read about it in the Bible.

    2. Some are called into ministry by God speaking to their hearts and giving them this calling on their life. They choose to follow this calling through their relationship with God. Not everyone gets into ministry for the money. Seminary is another road to the same place.

    3. While it is common for today's ministers to be certified and ordained through schooling, this is not what we see in the Bible. In fact, people were amazed at the authority and wisdom in Christ's disciples and Christ Himself because they were unlearned men. They did not go through 'Bible college' or become ordained ministers by other men. It is God who calls people into ministry and it is the work of the Holy Spirit to lead, guide and equip His people into building the Kingdom of Heaven.
