Today, Erin Bates and Chad Paine are celebrating four years of marriage. For those who want to watch their wedding, it was featured in 19 Kids and Counting "Wedding Bells," which is available for purchase on Amazon. You can also click here to read our recap of the episode.
Just for fun, we put together a few wedding facts.
- At the last minute, there was an issue with the bridesmaid dresses that Erin ordered online, so the Bates ladies bought new material, and Michaela Bates sewed five dresses by hand in the weeks leading up to the wedding.
- Erin found her wedding gown on the clearance rack for $250 and had it altered to fit her modesty standards.
- When Erin and Chad tied the knot, they moved into their little cottage home, complete with a very pink master bedroom decorated by Erin.
- The Duggars arrived in East Tennessee a couple days before the wedding to help with setup, and the older Duggar girls presented Erin with a gag gift. It was a well-known fact that Erin couldn't cook, so the girls compiled a book of easy recipes and takeout menus and purchased a smoke alarm and a fire extinguisher. Since getting married, Erin has fallen in love with cooking and become one of the best chefs in the family.
- Erin and Chad's wedding was attended by nearly 1,000 guests.

ReplyDeleteI am asking a legitimate question, not criticizing anything or anyone at all. Why do people think it is immodest to go sleeveless? How does a few inches of sleeve make a dress/shirt modest when most of the upper arm is still showing? I don't get it at all. Will someone give me some understanding, please?
ReplyDeleteSome people like to set arbitrary rules because it makes them feel good, or more secure. Perhaps they don’t trust themselves or others. It’s like putting up a fence... if I don’t cross it and nothing else can get in, all is good. At least, that’s been my observation and I’m an old timer.
DeleteThey do go sleeveless now sometimes.
DeleteThanks for answering. I appreciate it.
DeleteI would say it is a personal standard but for me, many sleeveless shirts have too big of armholes and you can see the undergarments that should be private. So it's easier just to not wear sleeveless at all than to worry about that being an issue.
DeleteI don’t really understand it either. Although the Bible talks about modesty and modest apparel, no where does it say the exact length of skirts, dresses, shirts, etc. I think modesty means different things for different people. As long as the Bates girls feel they are modest and pleasing to God, that’s all that matters. What you decide to wear and what you consider to be modest conforms to your own standards and convictions. And that is fine. Really, When you get down to the heart of “Modest Clothing,” modesty is truly not about a hemline. It is something that inspires ones heart to amend their whole lives to a greater level of purity. So I guess it’s just something that the girls consider modest. And it might not be sleeveless, per se, but finding sleeveless shirts/dresses that don’t show more that just the arm. I have had several that were cut too deep or were too baggy and they ended up showing more than just my arm... so now I wear a shirt under them.
DeleteI don't think the sleeveless thing is so much about showing the whole arm, I'm guessing it's how sometimes you can see other things, depending on how it's cut.
DeleteWhat church did Erin and Chad get married?
