As always, the Bates have been busy! With such a large family, it can be difficult to keep track of all the things they are doing. Here are a few updates:
- Zach and Whitney Bates are still working on their fixer upper house. They just chose cabinets and countertops, so they're making progress.
- As most of you know, Erin Bates Paine and Alyssa Bates Webster are both expecting their third babies in April.
- Trace Bates started his new semester at Crown College yesterday.
- Katie Bates is in her last semester of high school and started dual enrollment classes at Crown.
- Josie Bates graduated cosmetology school last semester and passed the licensing exam. She recently had a job interview.
- Tori and Bobby Smith are living in an apartment near the family. Tori graduates in May, and we can finally reveal their plans: They will be moving to the Nashville area. Bobby has accepted a job at a church called Bible Baptist (same name as Gil's church but no affiliation), and Tori hopes to use her teaching degree to be involved at a nearby Christian school.
- Tori starts student teaching on Monday. She has been placed in a first grade classroom.
- Lawson Bates has been in Nashville 4-5 days per week working on music.
- Nathan Bates spends his time doing tree work, teaching flying lessons, and doing mission work. He and Lawson are currently on a mission trip.
Will Tori be able to finish out the semester before they move? Exciting things happening for you all.
ReplyDeleteSo so so proud of the Bates kids for getting an education, working, and setting goals other than sitting around waiting to make babies.
ReplyDeleteI so agree!
DeleteThere is nothing wrong with being at home taking care of children. I would love to see a women's march that has women marching for their to be stay at mothers without being criticized by feminists!
DeleteFeminism is about equality, which means allowing both men and women to make their own free choices: therefore, if a woman's free choice is to be a stay at home mum, feminism is all for it. <3
DeleteA true feminist does not critique stay at home mothers because a true feminist fights for a woman’s and man’s rights to be a stay at home parent if they so choose :)
DeleteNever said anything about feminism. Never said anything about stay at home moms. I said it's nice to see the kids setting goals secondary to getting pregnant every year. Believe it or not, a woman can have a family and set her own goals.
DeleteThank you for these updates love them!!
ReplyDeleteI like how everyone is doing something outside of the home. They have goals to set and let ok forward to. Good for them!
ReplyDeleteExactly: finding a purpose that goes beyond helping your padents with your younger siblings and doing "projects" at home (boh of which are not wrong per se) is awesome!
DeleteThey're building a life for themselves so that they'll have a purpose even if they stay single or without children.
What about Carlin?
ReplyDeleteShe's probably hanging out with her boyfriend. I hope she's going to college!
Delete10:25 Me too, if she wants to.
DeleteThank you for this update. Lots of good news. Lots to pray about for this dear family.
ReplyDeletethanks for the update. especially on katie & trace. we dont get to see too much of these young-adult kids yet.
ReplyDeleteSo much more interesting than the Duggars.
ReplyDeleteTHANKYOU Ellie for the update! I love it when you do this!
ReplyDeleteLove the updates but what about Michela and Brandon?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Gil and Kelly Jo for raising such an amazing group of children! They each have their own individual talent that they share with the world along with their love and compassion to share Gods love! And they are genuine, which makes such a difference!! Thank you for your love and dedication to raising each of them to be who God intended them to be! Thank you, too, for sharing your family’s story - it’s always such fun to watch your show!!
ReplyDeleteEllie & Lily go job keeping updates about the older Bates Kids.
ReplyDeleteAs a viewer from the UK it’s really encouraging to hear that the family is pursing education, work and other commitments! I hope Josie gets a job and, as a teacher myself, Tori finds her teaching placement a great experience
ReplyDeleteDo you know what Trace Bates major is in college?
ReplyDeleteI have to assume that Bobby did not accept the position that Chad got for him at the recycling center. Good for Tori and Josie looking for work so they can really use their education. I do wonder how they keep the tree business viable if Nathan is doing flying lessons and mission work. It doesn't seem to be a reliable source of income if he is doing other things that take his time away from the business. But I have to assume they work that out.
ReplyDeleteAll the members of this family seem busy, productive and useful! All the married daughters also work in some capacity: Michael with her sewing business, Whitney in real estate, Erin giving piano lessons, Alyssa with her cleaning business, Tori teaching, Josie doing cosmetology, and Carlin and Katie in college. Gil and Kelly instilled a great work ethic in their kids, they should be proud.
ReplyDeleteThank you for all the news! As a teacher, I hope Tori will love this job but i'm sure she will!
ReplyDeleteGéraldine
I too teach. I pray she sticks with it and makes a career for herself. She has so much to offer. I would love to see her teach and raise her own children to go to school. Perhaps the same parochial school she works at.
DeleteWow, this was such an awesome scoop of new and interesting news! LOVED it!!! Thank you so much!! 😊 So glad to hear everyone is doing so well!!
ReplyDeleteThis is great! I love it when you give us these updates! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLove the Bates family !
ReplyDeleteI know that I'm going to text about something that wasn't addressed in this blog. But, my heart is hurting and I want to let the family and friends of ,Clarke Wilson, know that I'm praying for them in their time of grief. I've seen him through the years, as he(and his family) have been such a giving, loving friend to The Bates family as well as many other friends in Faith. I'm sure he will be rewarded and will no longer suffer from pain /cancer.I pray that his family and friends know that his deeds did not go unnoticed and it gave me inspiration to help others. My prayers are with you all.
ReplyDeleteYou're very kind, Annie. For those who haven't heard the sad news, it is posted on our Duggar blog: http://www.duggarfamilyblog.com/2018/01/duggars-mourn-loss-of-friend.html
