Last night on Bringing Up Bates, Evan Stewart asked Carlin Bates to begin an official courtship. Leading up to the big moment, he took her on an elaborate scavenger hunt.
The last stop was Norris Dam, Carlin's "happy place," where Evan performed a love song he had written, called "You Hold the Key." He followed it up with a question: "So I guess what I'm trying to ask you is, 'Will you accept the gift of my heart?'"
That love song is available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon, and CD Baby.
"Because it's like I'm staring at the stars up in outer space when I'm looking at those eyes on your pretty face. Ya you are my dream come true, so I wrote this song to prove that I love you...And out of this whole world, I don't want another girl. See, I've got my heart locked away, baby, and you hold the key."

Wow! That really was more like a proposal than asking her to court. He really loves her a lot!
ReplyDeleteAgree...how will he ever do a proposal to top that one???
DeleteOh, no. His very beautiful love song written just for her, for purchase for anyone? Kind of ruins its specialness
ReplyDeleteYou're not kidding. It should have been sung to her in private.
DeleteI second that. Maybe he's going into the music industry. Carlin has a beautiful voice. Does anyone know what Evan does for a career? I know he's very young. I wasn't sure if he was in college too.
DeleteHe and his family are in the music industry. Who doesn't like a good love song? It is neat that it wrote it for her. A lot of people have shared songs that wrote for their boyfriends or girlfriends. It is still special.
DeleteEvan is using Beautiful Carlin!!!!!!!! Selling her song!!!
DeleteTrue, just feels like capitalizing on the moment. One night we watch a sweet moment between two people, then the next day, it can be yours for just $.99....
DeleteSuch a beautiful song, Carlin and Evan are such a lovely couple.
ReplyDeleteAww so sweet. Carlin & Evan are a match made in heaven. CONGRATS TO YOU GUYS. TIME 2:30PM
ReplyDeleteI am curious why you end your posts with the time always.
DeleteIt's probably her device that does that.
Delete5:48 AM... Too funny! I'd just read Neddys comment and was thinking to myself.. I wonder why she ends her posts with the current time... Then up pops your post. You were reading my mind lol!
DeleteThat was a sweet song. He did a wonderful job with the scavenger hunt.
ReplyDeleteAWE how very sweet. I wish them all the happiness in the world
ReplyDeleteWow, how do you enjoy your moment with a camera stuck in your face?
ReplyDeleteMoney causes to you to enjoy it.
DeleteOh my goodness What a sweet song! I had no idea that young man could sing. All I can say is Wow!
ReplyDeleteBack in about March, there was a blog post from Ellie about Evan and his singing family, they are in a band I believe.
DeleteThanks for making me cry Evan! That was beautiful, she's a lucky girl.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful song! Now THAT is the way to make a woman feel loved and cherished!
ReplyDeletelved his song
ReplyDeleteMy eyes got stuck rolling! That song is way too cutesy and saccharine. I'd be so embarrassed if someone sang that to me.
ReplyDeleteI agree - it should have been sung in private, not with camera crew in their faces.
DeleteHopefully IF their courtship turns in to engagement they can be away from the cameras.
I understand "we" fans want to share these moments, but somethings should be more intimate. . . we a recap to us after the fact.
All proposals in this family are done for the camera. It won't change in this case.
DeleteThey can choose to not be filmed at certain times. Brandon did it when Michael surprised him with a visit when he was in college. Some of the kids have chosen not to be filmed after dental or medical procedures.
DeleteThe cameras may not be as close as you think. They can zoom in to get a close shot.
Haha, You people do realize that this is the Bates life and job, right? UPtv might let them choose little things not to be filmed, but there is no way that UPtv is going to let them opt out of filming a big event like a courtship. They always film the Courtships, Engagements, and Weddings. I'm sure Courtships. Weddings, and big events bring the most ratings. So if you want to date a Bates you have to know that whatever you do it's more than likely going to be filmed. The Bates are used to having a camera in their face all the time. I'm just glad Carlin found someone who's not afraid to show how much he loves her.
DeleteBeautiful song...but, I would have had the nervous laughter had my boyfriend be singing it to me🤷♀️
ReplyDeleteDoes Evan have a job?
ReplyDeleteCarlin is a beautiful young lady and your courtship episode made me cry. Cherish the love God has blessed you with. I love your smile and personality. You are a very special, anointed lady. God bless your life
ReplyDeleteEvan and carlin are a lovely young couple
ReplyDeleteI watched this episode with my boyfriend and said something to the affect of, "why don't you do something that sweet when you propose "..... that was so sweet.
ReplyDeleteGodsLove90 - Evans going to get alot of young men in trouble singing that song to Carlin! He has raised the bar now on how to treat a young lady lol!
DeleteHow will he top himself when he proposes marriage? I'm excited to see that.
DeleteI thought that was over the top for a courtship "proposal". That might just be me though, I wouldn't want anything that extreme even for an actual proposal.
DeleteYeah, I agree, I'm sort of tired of the whole scavenger hunt thing too. Sorry, but so much if it seems immature, like a "prom-posal " just ALL the sappy clues, etc. It's just not my taste, or something I would enjoy. They're a darling couple though.
DeleteThat song struck a cord in my heart. When I was courting, I gave my boyfriend a music box with a heart in it. I then locked it and gave him the key with a note that said "You hold the key to my heart." We've been happily married now for 16 years. May God bless Carlin and Evan as they seek to please the Lord with their future.
ReplyDeleteThe best part was Carlin's expression while Evan was singing yo her! It was so sweet and full of love.
ReplyDeleteEllie,
ReplyDeleteI saw a post on here a few days ago with the video of him actually singing to her.... did you take that post down, or am I just completely missing it? Wanted to show it to my sister and can't seem to find it....
Thanks!
