  1. Chad seems like a very nice and hard working young man. Earning a good living while doing what you are passionate about is a key to fulfillment. I'm curious to know how the residuals of their UP TV show are dispersed and if/how all those appearing regularly are compensated. I'd imagine a trust has been put in place for the minor children. It's good that they all seem industrious and have or are pursing regular jobs.

    1. Are you kidding me!?! Put your comment into real world perspective: A stranger knocks on your parent's door and ask them to provide their personal family financial planning and records???

    2. 9:38- Are you referring to a trust? If so, you evidentally don't know much about how they work.

    3. I think that person is referring to a "revocable" trust.

  4. Good for Chad being brave enough to make a change. I hope he is very successful. Eventually flipping houses is something he and Erin could do together, however I hope they are cautious because TV makes it look so easy ad profitable but in real life it is very difficult. If they decide they are up to the task, go for it!

    1. I agree with you Kathy, but I don't think Chad plans to rely on house flipping for a steady source of income, at least not yet. He'll be working on other construction jobs as well.

And I do applaud him for wanting to be his own boss. He's going against the stereotypical Millenial tendencies to just want to be comfortable and safe. Even in prior generations, many people in his stage of life (early 30s with young kids) wouldn't be willing to take that risk. Of course, I'm sure the TV money helps, but I doubt they are being paid anywhere near what professional actors are.

    2. 8:06- I , too, applaud anyone willing to pursue self-employment and accept the risks involved. However, as an old-timer I can attest to the fact that there's something to be said for being 'safe and comfortable'. I'm glad I had a job that provided me with a good pension to enjoy now that I'm retired. The skyrocketing cost of health insurance is another reason many prefer to play it safe and be employed by someone else.

    3. 8:06. I take offense to your totally untrue criticism of Millenials. I know plenty of hardworking young college “millenials” who are changing the world for Christ. Putting themselves through college, real college, paying their ways on missions trips, taking their weekends to feed homeless persons. If anyone is the stereotype here it’s you and your judgy ways.

    4. Anon at 8:06AM commenting again. I certainly didn't mean to accuse all Millenials of fitting the stereotype, I actually tend to roll my eyes when older generations say "All Millenials are lazy bums" or whatever (and chuckle when I recall how when I was in my early 20s, it was my generation, Generation X, that Boomers accused of being lazy bums).

But it is true, for example, that about half of Millenials (twenty to mid thirty somethings) still live with their parents. Stereotypes usually DO have grains of truth in them. And sadly many turn into self-fulfilling prophecies.

Although come to think of it, the unmarried Millenial Bates and Duggars DO fit the stereotype of living with their parents way past the age of 18, and they all seem quite comfortable with smartphones and social media. Yet obviously they are VERY different from the stereotype in rejecting casual hook-ups and substance use.
