This Thursday on Bringing Up Bates, watch 16-year-old Jackson Bates, No. 12 in the Bates family lineup, take his driver's test (preview below). At this point, Gil and Kelly Bates must be on a first name basis with the DMV!
The charm of the Bates family for me is when I see Nathan laughing about trying to find a car that is in 100% working order for Jackson's driving test. Now that's reality we can all relate to! The non-stop trips aren't as fun to me as just the day-to-day living episodes. The kids are so funny! Oh- and I'm sure that Jackson passed his driving test with flying colors!
Thank you for pointing that out. I didn't want to sound critical in the past - but I have posted about the extravagance of the recent courtships and engagements. That is wonderful for the couples, but it is weary to watch. I love the everyday real life as you mentioned-just watching Erin and Chad prepare a room for the new baby is such a testimony to godly marriages and simple living-that is their charm and the Bates' testimony- I don't want do be a drama queen and say "I fear they will lose their humility and witness" by so much attention to courtship proposals etc, but as a Christian who has been both poor and without want- it is more difficult to keep the hunger for Christ when your busy following the ways of the world (not in a sinful way, but cultural way)
@ m o and Anon Could not agree more. I'm also getting tired of the courtship, proposal, marriage thing. Let us just see how you live day-to-day, how you homeschool your kids (I'm really interested in that since it's not common where I live) and what is good daily life for you. ps. I laughed at Nathan's comment "they don't need to make all kinds of strange noises" :) :)
Jackson reminds me so much of my teenage son in looks and action. Love watching Jackson. Here in U.K. you can't start to have driving lessons until your 17yrs.
Thanks for leaving your comments! Our aim is to post all points of view, but we do not post anything that is profane, insulting, derogatory, or in poor taste.
Oh boy... lots of driving tests

DeleteI totally agree m.o. I enjoy watching the day to day goings on with the Bates much better than seeing staged courtships/proposals/wedding prep.

ReplyDeleteJackson is a fine young man - he will do fine and be given is new form of freedom. . . .he will be a help to his parents being able to drive.
ReplyDeleteGood luck everyone.
Must be the slowest DMV in the nation! In MA and CT there is always a line no matter why you are there!!!
