Gil and Kelly Bates' 11th oldest child is officially an adult. Happy 18th birthday, Katie! In addition to celebrating Katie, the Bates family has another milestone event today. That's right, Josie Bates and Kelton Balka are getting married! Stay tuned for details.

DeleteI’m sure they didn't do that to be rude. I would assume this date is a significant for them. My husband and I wanted to get married on the 2nd day of the month which happened to be on a Thursday that year, it was a very small wedding, nothing flashy but the date was significant for us so we wed that day rather than waiting.

DeleteThis month is really popular for weddings in the Great Smokey Mountains because of the leaf color, etc. So I'm sure they had a hard time being able to secure a location. Not to mention, I'm sure they talked to Katie and got her blessing to do it on her birthday. In that big of a family, it's almost always someone's birthday. Josie and Katie seem very close, so I'm sure there was careful thought and conversation on the topic of the date.
DeleteThis is only occurring on one of her birthdays. It isn’t like the family will celebrate their anniversary every year. With a family that large, the most important thing is that they can all be there. Several of the married families are busy with jobs and their children. I am sure the date that everyone could come on both sides of the family was more important than that it was on someone’s birthday. Look at it this way, she gets to see all of her siblings on her birthday instead of just the ones in town. They may have had a special birthday breakfast or lunch for her. Katie could have been the one to suggest they have the wedding on her birthday. Some people would consider that special.
DeleteThe venue was not available on the sixth which was their first choice. I talked to Katie a week before and she was not displeased by the date. She is a lovely girl.

I hope that Katie has a happy birthday. My parents got married on my grandfather's birthday. He thought that was great, especially when they served birthday cake and wedding cake at the reception. I'm sure that Josie talked to her sister and checked on the date before making a decision.
ReplyDeleteAs for Friday versus Saturday. It is October in the Smokey Mountains. That is a really popular time of the year. So it may well be the best date they could find for the church/location they wanted.
