A few weeks ago, Evan Stewart proposed to Carlin Bates during a trip to Maine. The proposal took place at Portland Head Light, an iconic, New England lighthouse located near Portland, Maine. Both sets of their parents were with them on the getaway, and the group enjoyed spending time sightseeing while they were in the area.
Gil Bates, the king of "dad" jokes, says Evan chose Maine because the proposal was the "main" event.
And now, wedding planning is in full swing!

Congratulations Carlin and Evan! You guys are such a BEAUTIFUL couple. May God bless you with a wonderful wedding, marriage, and happy, healthy children.
ReplyDeleteSuch a gorgeous picture with the ocean as the background! -Tanya
ReplyDeleteWhen is the wedding going to be?
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute couple
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing Josie and Kelton's wedding. I don't know what to expect with Carlin's wedding. I just hope she calms down... The "look at me / look at me" routine is getting old, even for her wedding.
ReplyDeleteCarlin has a naturally outgoing personality and a big heart. She may be calmer since her wedding is a time where she, as the bride, will be naturally in the spotlight and won't have to call attention to herself.
DeleteI think it’s immaturity. All of the past Bates couples have seemed quite mature and level headed. They make a great couple, just have a lot of growing up to do.
DeleteI hope she is in this engagement for the right reasons and not for flaunting a diamond.
Delete6:52, Oh yeah that’s totally it. She got engaged juuuust because she wanted a ring to flaunt. Not because she’s in love or anything, not because she wants to spend the rest of her life with Evan, and be fully committed to him, but because she wants her big beautiful ring to show off. You have some serious issues.
DeleteItwas Tori who kept on saying "Where's the ring" over and over - to point of being annoying.
DeleteCarlin - in my opinion - is a bit more mature. . .and a real HAPPY GO LUCKY person.
Josie had such an outstanding wedding, it will be nice to see what Carlin's taste/theme will be for their wedding.
I actually agree. They aren't mature enough for these young marriages. I wonder if that's why Gil insisted on such a long courtship. Because he knows she just isn't ready yet.
DeleteI don't think the word is outgoing, the word is obnoxious. I've watched the show for years and I still can't figure out if either one of them has a steady job- and yes, that is important. Immaturity and marriage at this stage of life can lead to a train reck- I've seen it happen before. I haven't felt that way about any of the other Bates couples.
DeleteI dont think shes attention seeking or out for a diamond to flaunt. They waited longer than other couples so they could be in a more secure place with their education. If it was for the diamond, that wouldnt have mattered. Oncemore,I think in general, her personality is much more extraverted than the rest of the family.
DeleteHave to agree with you on that, it can be a little over the top.
DeleteCarlin is a beautiful young lady! I can't believe the audacity of these rude posts. It was not Gil who made the decision for the length of their Courtship before getting Engaged. Evan and Carlin waited before getting Engaged for Evan to finish Electrician school and for Carlin to be closer to graduating. Carlin teaches piano and helps Kelly with Homeschooling her younger siblings. They are a wonderful couple and I am excited for their Wedding. Please keep your negative comments to yourself…they are hurtful.
Delete6:35, I just watched a rerun that took place last spring, the one where Bobby and Tori visit their new church and go apartment shopping. They were bowling w/ Carlin, Evan, and Lawson, and one of them asked Carlin and Evan about their plans. Carlin explained how they were both waiting because of their educations. It was a very mature comment.
DeleteI agree with the comments about Carlin's immaturity. There was an episode quite awhile back where Gil said something about the relationship being slow because she needs time to mature. I have trouble watching her because I feel embarrassed for her and usually skip through her scenes.
DeleteThanks, for sharing. Do you know when the Bateses page will be updated? I appreciate your work but this question has been asked with no respond. Josie was engaged before JD and the Duggars reflect.
ReplyDeleteUpdating the header involves a lot of work. Why is it necesssry to demand a response. Be patient, it will be done.
DeleteBetween all the Duggar and Bates televised courtships, engagements, wedding planning, find the dress, weddings and tv births; courtship, engagements, wedding planning , find the dress, weddings and tv births; court.... , well you get my drift, and a 3 month absence of shows, well, I’m not all that excited about the new season anymore unless they will be changing back to a more varied format. Perhaps making hour long shows to fit in other happenings would help out with the sameness of it all.
ReplyDelete@4:15 pm. ITA it would be nice to see the Bates married couples hanging out with each other. Showing more of couples we do not see or what Nathan is doing.
DeleteIt makes you wonder how many seasons could be left if they keep up with the same episodes.
I agree.... Practically Anything but the elongated courting to wedding stuff would be a blessings. I love these two shows, but enough is enough of long drawn out weddings and birthing baby details.
DeleteAgree!!!
DeleteI like ALL the shows and will keep on watching
DeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Congratulations!!! I like the sameness of steadfast whole families. Every individual is different... they could do more of following Lawson on a tour or Nathan on a flight.
ReplyDeleteI wish the very best for all the Bates- they seem to be a very loving family and I enjoy their energy. I do think the preoccupation and emphasis with the young women finding a man is tedeious, like if they don't have a husband, they're somehow not going to be valued. Except for the oldest son, no mention is ever made of the male romantic pursuits. They also seem to be able to come and go on their own. Can the daughters do that, or must they be chaperoned all the time?
ReplyDeleteThe show has addressed the sons discussing courtships and marriage. They showed Nathan's courtship with Ashley Salyer from being "special friends" to a courtship proposal in New York and then their break up. Nathan and Ashley followed similar courtship rules as his sisters with her sister accompanying her on visits to the Bates. The family has also teased Lawson, Nathan, and Trace for not currently being in courtships.
DeleteThe daughters don't seem to have chaperones at all times. They showed Tori at school and Josie at her salon without an obvious chaperone present. They do need them when with their boyfriends. However, I would be surprised if the daughters would be able to have a music career or live away from home while unmarried.
Nathan did have a brief courtship with a girl from NY - they had known each other for a few years on mission trips. Because of their different life styles "it" did not work and they parted as friends. Time will tell when the other "males" find their life mates. Trace just finished school and is not ready to settle down. Lawson wants a career in music - he has talent, but IMO needs professional voice lessons to strengthen his voice.
DeleteI wish them all well.
Congratulations to you both
ReplyDeleteCongrats Carlin and Evan. Not everyone is going to love a personality. Thats who God made her to be. She seems sweet, fun, and bubbly. Id take that over a sour one. Its her time to be in the spot light with her wedding. She has been with him for a minute. It wasnt like 6 months, bam marriage. I waited 7 years. The whole dating, promie ring, engagement marriage. You really get a chance to know someone. I believe Michael took some time to get married too. Best of luck!
