Gil Bates: "I don't get it, shopping for dresses. Why can't we just, one person wear it and then the next wears the same dress?"
Kelly Bates: "Their tastes are totally different. Everybody has picked a different style."
Gil may have five married daughters, but wedding dress shopping is something that he doesn't understand. This week's new episode is all about bridal gowns (and engagements rings). Scroll down for a sneak peek and episode summary.
Josie’s found her dream wedding dress online...there’s just one dilemma - the bridal designer’s showroom is located in New York City. Can she convince Kelly Jo that a trip to the Big Apple is a priority, so that she can try on the dress? And now that Evan has permission from Gil and Kelly Jo to propose to Carlin, it’s time to shop for an engagement ring! The young couple breaks tradition and decides to look at wedding rings together. Later, Kelly Jo, Josie, Whitney, and Carlin head to Manhattan to take in the sights and hopefully find Josie a wedding dress. But will this dress be “the one?”

I can't wait to see the new episode!
ReplyDeleteGil is not being serious with these comments. Why act like he is?
ReplyDeleteHe trying to save money. Lol
DeleteMy dad sure would’ve acted serious! He’d be the one paying for it, sooo.....
DeleteHe probably does not mean that he will not pay for a dress for each daughter but he is very sentimental so I think the comment is partly due to this. Can you imagine walking the same dress down the aisle TEN times?
DeleteMost people pay for their wedding dress themselves and he is paying so of course his going to want a cheaper option that doesn’t involve travelling lol! But Josie looks beautiful in that dress
DeleteHe's a man. Nuff said!
DeleteProbably because he is the one paying for the dresses! 😂
DeleteJosie has amazing style in general. I’m not surprised she looked amazing on her wedding day! Very unique and beautiful dress. I’m also a huge fan of Whitney’s vow renewal look - stunning!
ReplyDeleteHer bridesmaids dresses looked GORGEOUS compared to her own dress. That halter stuff is not very much my cup of tea. I think it looks hideous. It’s like it’s saying “please choke off my neck but keep my shoulders bare” 🙅♀️ Eek. The bridesmaids were stunning tho I must say.
DeleteI meant Whitney’s renewal...not Josie’s wedding.
DeleteGil is so funny
ReplyDeleteI love Gil's sense of humor though.
ReplyDeleteAll of the girls'dresses are so pretty. They look lovely. Poor Gil.
ReplyDeleteLots of dresses, lots of money, Gil!!
ReplyDeleteJosie is the only one of the girls to get her wedding dress in New York City. The other girls got theirs in Kentucky
ReplyDeleteFor the most part, passing on a wedding dress is a thing of the past. My mother was 4'11" - I am 5' 7", my daughter 7' 2" and her daughter (my granddaughter) tallest of all of us. None of us could wear the other's
ReplyDeletewedding dress w/o major (perhaps impossible) alterations.
Bates daughters/sisters appear to be very different in their body types. All were beautiful brides. . . .my favorite dress was Tori's.
Seriously, she is 7 feet 2 inches?! Wow!! And her daughter is taller than that?
Deleteplease tell me that's 6' 2" not 7'2".
DeleteWhat is with Kelly and Gil’s constant touching? They always have their hands on each other’s lap and it’s so awkward and makes me uncomfortable. It makes me think “Everyone knows. You’re married. You don’t have to be constantly touching or attached at the hip...”
ReplyDeleteI think it's great that they still have a loving, affectionate relationship. No doubt it's a habit of many years.
DeleteWhat's wrong with it? I see couples at our church older than they are always holding hands or have their arms around each other. It's a sweet thing and there is not a thing wrong with it.
DeleteHow sad you are uncomfortable seeing KellyJo and Gil still being affectionate. I’ve been married over two decades and me and hubby still hold hands and sit close etc. Perhaps it’s the secret to long successful marriages?
DeleteI think it is wonderful and I hope they always do that!
DeleteHere honey let's pick out this ring together but then you take it and hide it and surprise me later with it and I'll pretend like I've never seen it before
ReplyDeleteI saw Josie dress and its beautiful. Ots hreat Evan and Carlin are going together to pick out the right ring. Gil. I agree with you about the dress. I have 4 daughters and hope they will do this Kelly Jo our daughter Sarah would fit right in with your family. She loves to cook. Make straight A's. A Christian and can sing up s storm. She is only 14
ReplyDeleteGil’s “dumb blonde” act is getting old. He knows exactly why each girl gets their own dress, and as they are wealthy it’s not an issue. Move on.
ReplyDeleteHow funny ! That us just what you would expect Gil to say ! This family has a very big sense of humor on many levels. I think it is cute & makes life just that much more fun. My take is that if you can't take a joke you don't belong in this family !
ReplyDeleteOnly man/dad would come up with using one dress for everyone!!!!😄😄😄
ReplyDeleteI do agree with Gil, a wedding pay isn’t about all the material stuff and paying $$$$ for a dress you wear for a couple hours is crazy. His paying so I understand why he wants a cheaper dress
ReplyDeleteOne solution would be to give each daughter a set amount for her dress. The daughter can be responsible for the remaining cost if she wants a dress that is more than the set allowance. This would allow Gil to feel better about the price and the daughters have the option to decide whether a dress is worth paying the extra money.
Delete6:12, that's a great idea!
