The 7th Bates wedding day is almost here! In less than 24 hours, Carlin Bates will be Mrs. Evan Stewart. Family and close friends gathered at the venue earlier today for the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. After the festivities, there was decorating and music practicing to be done. The ceremony will take place outside, and the reception will be outside, as well, although there will be a covered area. The Knoxville weather was about 91 and sunny today, and tomorrow will be the same.

ReplyDeleteJosie set the new standard of getting married outside with the gorgeous Tennessee mountains, and now Carlin is doing the same. I don't blame her. If I lived there, I'd be doing that too!

ReplyDeleteThose ring bearer signs are not appropriate for children. Here we have a culture where purity is prized and you wait for matrimony, yet you're advertising young children as objects for a relationship. You may think you're kidding, but it's distasteful and wrong. Children shouldn't be used like this, even for a joke. You don't joke about this kind of innocence! It saddens me (and scares me) to see a situation where this is thought of as funny. Do those children understand the very adult implications of the signs they've been told to wear? Would you want to explain it to them?

DeleteI'm not sure what there is to explain?? The signs are joking that the boys are single, which is a joke because obviously they are just kids, not old enough to get married (and may be at the "girls are gross" stage). There truly are no hidden, dirty, "very adult" meanings. I have four boys, and we do not promote child or teen relationships with our kids. I wouldn't put those signs on my boys because I don't think they're funny, but neither do I think they're going to have their innocence tainted. Through the lens of purity and the beauty of marriage, it's not a bad thing for a kid to have the thought that they may get married at some point. Obviously their parents are teaching them that you wait for the right one.
