Yesterday was Chaney's 21st birthday. Although she has not yet been featured on the show (which returns September 19th, for those who haven't heard), we have posted a few photos of her on our blog. She is Trace's girlfriend. Happy birthday, Chaney!

DeleteTrace’s mom is Kelly not Michelle. Also, not wearing pants isn’t part of their rules. Many of their married daughters wear pants, it’s just a belief they had to adhere to while living with their parents out of respect.

DeleteThey do.. It is an option for the children. It is not mandatory. It gives them a chance to get to know each other before deciding if they want to officially court.
DeleteThey may not do casual dating -- where you’d meet and date several different boys or girls while you’re in high school or college -- and refer to them as "boyfriends" or "girlfriends" -- to see which ones you liked the best. But that doesn’t mean they never used the words “boyfriend” and “girlfriend” before Trace and Chaney. After watching the recent series of 1-hour episodes covering a different couple each week -- with clips showing their journeys from meeting through marriage -- I was struck by the number of times Michael and Tori used the word “boyfriend” to describe Brandon and Bobby before their courtships and/or engagements. Other Bates siblings may have used the terms, at home or on the show, but not enough for me to notice.
DeleteMost likely it’s because there was a long period for both couples moving from the “talking” phase to the formal “courtship” phase to engagement. Brandon’s school didn’t permit students to be engaged or married, and Kelly said he wanted to work after he graduated -- to build his savings back up after paying for school, and to buy Michael an engagement ring. Bobby also wanted to graduate, get a job and buy an engagement ring for Tori. She wanted to finish up college, too. The dilemma was how to refer to Brandon and Bobby before Michael and Tori could say they were their fiancés. I guess the word “boyfriend” seemed most appropriate, so I’m not surprised to see "boyfriend" and "girlfriend" now being used to describe Chaney and Trace’s current relationship, too.

Chaney is around a lot these days, she's a lovely young lady. Is it different for the boys? (nothing against the boys) :o)
