As UPtv gears up for the Bringing up Bates season 8B premiere on Thursday, September 19th, the network currently only has one rerun scheduled between now and the big day. But on September 19th, be sure to tune in at 9pm ET/8pm CT for a 60-minute kickoff episode, featuring the Bates family's I Love You Day celebration (episode summary below). For more photos from the event, check out our February 17th post.

9pm: A Very Medieval I Love You Day NEW!
I Love You Day is here again, and the whole Bates crew gathers for an elaborate “chivalry” themed party with food, games, and amazing costumes. Before the big event, Kelly Jo and the girls decorate for the party and get caught up on all the biggest family news like Carlin and Evan’s wedding plans, Trace’s romantic prospect, and the exciting news that Michaella and Brandon might be moving to Tennessee! Meanwhile, the Bates boys hit the slopes for the day in a “Battle of the Brothers,” as snowboarder Lawson and skier Nathan compete for the fastest speeds. Later, the love fest continues when Josie and Kelton invite their family over for a gender reveal party. When the balloon pops, will it be baby boy or baby girl!?

Thursday, September 26
9pm: A Blushing Bride to Be NEW!
Kelly Jo, Erin, and Carlin head to Nashville to help Carlin with the #1 thing on her wedding to-do list - finding a wedding dress! While there, they take the opportunity to spend a little time with Tori, Baby Kade, and Lawson. When the group takes a trip to TopGolf, Erin and Lawson enjoy some friendly sibling competition, and Carlin and Evan enjoy some couple time. And finally, Carlin tries on her dream wedding gown; but will it still be the one, when the bride to be realizes the dress is slightly pink?

  1. This all sounds so contrived. I doubt large families live like this.

    1. Trust me we do. 😂 I’m from a family of 10 and we do stuff like this almost all the time.

    2. Large families who are close find ways of staying connected. It takes a great deal of effort to remain close. It's a closed minded view to group "large families" together. The Bates make the effort and time to be a part of each other's lives. They are a prime example of a well adjusted family ...large or small!

    3. Totally agree!

    4. I agree, there doesn't seem to be much reality in this reality TV show anymore.

    5. If you don't believe it, why are you still here?

    6. This is one of the best if not thee best reality shows on tv.

    7. If you ever met any of the family, you would know what we see on TV is 100% their reality.

  4. MO- Once again, the producers of this show are forgetting why people watch it to begin with. The days of a humble family went out the window a long time ago. It's starting to remind me of a Game Show, each family member trying to out-do the other one. It will be interesting to see how many people continue to watch this- :o)

    1. Why do you assume everyone was watching for the same reasons you were? I personally enjoy watching various family dynamics and seeing how they play out in different groups.

    2. Reply to 2:40PM. MO- I don't think that everyone watches for the same reason that I do. But I've read other viewers comments and I think a lot of people are not thrilled with the "new dynamics" of the show. :o)

  5. Remember anonymous 10:07- it’s a “reality” show! Everything scripted!

This show is not scripted. This is what the Bates do.
The producer's don't tell them what to say this is their own words.

    2. Everyone who has been on a reality show reports that it is scripted. Of course, they don't tell the little kids what to do. But Gil and Kelly most likely meet with the producers and come up with ideas that would be good for the show (white water rafting? A trip to the zoo?). Do you think the Bates (who are very frugal) would rent costumes for an elaborate Valentines Day celebration on their own? Do you think that they did so before the show? UP gives the adults a rough idea of what to say ("Discuss Michaela's visit to the doctor" "Talk about Carson and Brooklyn's reaction to a new sister") and the Bates do it! I'm sure they wouldn't do anything that went against their values. On the other hand, they do stretch the truth a bit, as we've all noticed, as when Josie pretended she didn't know Kelton was going to propose. That scene, and others, have to be done over and over, because the lighting and sound have to be exactly right. If Josie's "Oh my goodness, I'm so surprised!" comes out muffled and flat, they do it again and again. Till it's perfect.

  6. Call it Valentines Day. No matter what they think of us Catholics it is a holiday named after a Catholic priest.

    1. I don't think it has anything to do with your religion.

    2. I think the change had more to do with wanting to celebrate it as a day for familial love and not just necessarily romantic love. They’ve also said it has become their big gift-giving holiday because it’s easier to get everyone together in February than at Christmas.
Besides, Valentines isn’t usually regarded as religious so I doubt the name change was a slight to those of the Catholic faith.

  7. Of course it’s all contrived. UPtv has a popular show to produce; so, they need to have a bunch of scenarios to create for the Bates. Real life may be a bit more active than an average family of 4; but limited in its interest factor!!!

  8. Nobody wants to hear about stuff from 6-7 months ago. The lag time has gotten ridiculous!

  13. Oh, I so want Michealla to have a baby. I hate that they are having fertility issues😥

    1. MO- Oh please, stop this constant "Poor Michaella" crusade! She already stated that they were going to take a step back and leave the issue alone for awhile- just leaving it up to God. She's in school and she's doing what she wants to do for now. Don't cause this woman more anxiety by constantly posting about her inability to conceive. :o(
