Aunt Michael and Layla

Michael Bates Keilen and Layla Stewart
Michael Keilen and Layla Stewart

We just can't get enough of sweet little Layla Rae Stewart, who made her grand debut on Friday afternoon. Isn't this a lovely photo of Layla holding Aunt Michael's finger? Another little baby for Michael to dote on. She's great with kids, and as you've probably noticed on the show, all the Bates nieces and nephews love her.

  2. This photo makes my heart melt. I am not able to have children and my nieces are my world. The relationship I see Michael have with her nieces and nephews mirror what I see within my own life and it's such a tremendous feeling, even in the middle of the hysterectomy heartache. (And my 18 month old niece is in the hospital with a severe infection that spiked her fever as high as 106. Surely would appreciate prayers for "Peanut", as I call her.)

    1. ❤❤ I was closest to my aunt who never had her own children. You have a very special place in your nieces' lives. Praying for Peanut!

    3. Thank you both for your sweet words of kindness and encouragement, as well as your prayers. Peanut is home and doing quite well. She had an infection in her bloodstream and was severely dehydrated. I'm so thankful to have her back home and back to her normal, feisty self!

  3. She should try fertility treatments, but if they fail she should adopt. 2 of my 1st cousins were adopted from China as babies by my aunt and uncle since my aunt couldn't get pregnant. Hey Tea, you and your husband should adopt as well if you love children but can't get pregnant. My aunt and uncle thought of my older brother and me when we were little.

    1. Unknown- I am an adoptive mother. Let me just say that it's never ok to tell someone else what they "should" do, especially when it comes to building a family. We have no idea what the particulars are in the Keilens' situation or what they've pursued. You may have good intentions, but it's a personal matter best left up to the couple involved, not strangers on an internet blog.

    2. Bravo, 12:18. You said what I was thinking.

    3. Is it Brandon or Michaela who is infertile? Everyone keeps assuming it's Michaela.

    4. China is pretty much closed except for special needs. BTW adopted from there and it wasn’t just for people without bio kids. They could not get pregnant. Not your aunt could not get pregnant.

    5. There are plenty of other countries besides China where there are babies without homes. Including the US. People adopt for all sorts of reasons, infertility is only one of them. There are many special needs children whose special needs are quite minor and manageable.

    6. There are very few infants available for the number of infertile couples or same sex couples or single people who want to parent. That is the whole point of why telling a person who doesn’t have a kid to adopt or their lack of kids means they are perfect for fostering is not the best advice. Russia closed to Americans as well as China just being for special needs. Korea lowered the number of kids who can be adopted abroad as well. The country recovered after the war and there are not GI babies left behind in a country uncomfortable with biracial kids. Unless the virus starts killing the adults of parent age like the Spanish flu did in the 20’s there will not be scores of infants orphaned. In the US most kids needing homes go back to their parents or go to a relative. And most of those kids are not babies. If one of this family’s parent couples died heaven forbid those kids left behind would not go into care. They have grandparents and aunt and uncles. It’s really not a terrible thing there are not a lot of kids truly orphaned. Abroad many of the kids in centers have living parents. It’s just more efficient to feed them and educate them if they live in one location. Especially when money is just earmarked for kids.

    7. I appreciate the suggestion and my heart has always longed to adopt but that will not be an option for me. First of all, I'm not married. And second, I have very serious, life threatening chronic health issues. I wouldn't be willing to adopt as a single mother, only to wind up leaving my child parentless. So nee, not in the cards for me, but I do appreciate the words of encouragement!

    1. Thank you, Nicole! Peanut is home from the hospital and back to her outgoing self! Turns out she had an infection in her bloodstream and was seriously dehydrated. We couldn't get her to eat or drink because she felt so lousy. Poor little thing has multiple bruises because her IV sites kept blowing. She was pretty traumatized by the experience but she is safely home and we are so thankful to Christ that she is well now! It's terrifying when such ah little one runs such a high fever. (Was 106 degrees when this started.)

  5. It's a little sad, knowing that Michaela would love to have an own child and so far was not able to.

    1. She should try to do different options so she can have children.

    2. How do you know what options the Keilen's have or have not explored? In any event, it's their business and not for you to decide what they should do.

    3. They want children however they have them. I want them to have them since they want them. I know that already.

    4. Unknown- It's one thing to hope someone fulfills a dream. It's quite another to assume you know best how that person should go about getting doing it. If they want or need advice, they can look to professional resources to guide their decision making.

    1. Thank you! Her real name is Olivia but she's always been my little Peanut because she was so tiny at birth. She's home and doing very well now! We are so grateful to God for protecting her and I am very thankful for your prayers!
