  1. Actually, the title of this post is worse than the actual video. Josie's comment was quite subtle. She did try these new foods so that was good. I wonder if the TV crew put her up to this comment. Lately, it seems like the Bates are doing more and more outlandish things for the sake of the cameras, and hence, TV ratings.

    1. Eating shrimp and scallops is outlandish?? I’m always surprised by their narrow diet!

    2. MO- In a home with a lot of kids and a mother and father who's said they really don't care to cook, I'm guessing there was a lot of cereal eaten for dinner. Even though the older kids said they'd prepare the meals, I think only the basics were served. (hamburgers, hot dogs, casseroles) Nathan said on the show that the kids would fight for a piece of steak leftover from their parents date night. Haha- :o)

    3. I would never eat steak unless my children had steak too. Children are blessings!

    4. 2:45, so if they go out on a date they shouldn't eat steak at the restaurant unless their kids st home are going to get steak too? That's ridiculous.

  3. i crack up with these food tasting videos! i guess we assume everyone is familiar with 'our' types of foods and are surprised when they aren't. of course i've never eaten venison before either and would react the same i'm sure! lol
i'm a big seafood fan although i don't care for oysters or mussels, both of which i find slimey. (i wonder if the scallop wasnt cooked well enough because it shouldnt have been slimey?) and i wont pick a lobster!! only eat one without the eyes looking back at me that was dead before i got there. when things were really bad financially, my husband and i would fish the local pier for dinner. i got to try all different kinds of fish i probably never would have tried before. he was a great cook and loved experimenting with different recipes, even with fish lol!

  4. Scallops are so good if cooked correctly! They should definitely not be slimy- they were under cooked.

  6. Wow, the Bates family just seem so uncouth when they try new foods.

    1. She actually handled that pretty well, only a slight face.

  7. They did not have choices of foods growing up in such a large family. Seafood is expensive unless you do your own fishing. Growing up in CA my family didn’t have much money but my dad loved to fish and caught trout from mountain lakes& streams and lots of fish like halibut, snapper, tuna etc from the Pacific Ocean. Didn’t hurt that he was a fantastic cook either😄

  8. I find it so weird that the lots of the Bates kids didn’t eat sea food growing up. I grew up far away from the beach and I still eat plenty of sea food growing up.

    1. Us too. Canned tuna, salmon patties, and fish sticks. 😄

    2. I don't think it's that weird. My mom lived in Baltimore a few years, and we didn't have seafood very often when I was growing up.

    3. I grew up in a big fishing community and I rarely had seafood growing up. My family just doesn`t have a taste for it.

  9. I just can't understand why some feel the need to be so nasty to the Bates family. Whatever happened to treating others the way you wish they would treat you?

  10. I like Josie's hair better with it's natural brown. Those dark roots are unflattering.

  11. I feel sorry for the restaurant owner and chef. Josie acted like a child and hurt the reputation of the restaurant by passing judgement on something she knows nothing about. You can dislike food without making faces or making rude statements. Four year olds do that.

    1. How can you say she knows nothing about something she actually tasted?
