Erin and Tori

Erin Paine and Tori Smith

"Since I've gotten married, our friendship has just gotten deeper and deeper."

-Tori

Even though they are four-and-a-half years apart, Erin and Tori have always had a close relationship. In this web exclusive clip from Thursday's episode, they discuss their friendship during their getaway with Chad and Bobby.

  1. It would be more interesting to hear about the Bates who are very different and how they reconcile their differences and find common ground. Not another clip about two siblings who are "super close"!

    1. Agree, that would be interesting!

    2. I'm pretty sure they handle their differences the way everyone else does. Like grown up mature people. Why would you think there are any different than you and i?

    4. Well, there are many ways to handle differences. Everyone does't do it identically. Besides, there are lots of different types of issues siblings can have--jealousy, resentment, competitiveness, etc. How do the Bates handle these things? Come on, give us something besides "we're super close" and "we're super close."

  2. Sisters can make the best friends! I feel sad for people who have difficult relationships with siblings.

    1. That’s why cousins and friends exist. I don’t exactly have a bad relationship with my siblings but they’re over a decade older than me so we’re not super close. I am lucky to have my cousins and my friends, they’ve always felt like siblings to me.

    2. That's fine if it works out. However, siblings don't get to choose each other, so I think it's unrealistic to expect that sisters will be automatic best friends. We do get to choose our friends, however. My own five siblings are as different from me as night and day. We have little in common, other than we had the same parents. In many ways, they are like strangers. The good friends I have in my life are more like kindred spirits to me. We share much more than biology. So, it's not really sad at all.

    3. 9:34, the reason I think it's sad is that my sisters and I are great friends, and it wasn't always that way with one of them because we had such different personalities. But we have such a sweet friendship now that it makes me sad that not everyone does.

  3. It's beautiful that the members of this family support one another and are always willing to help each other out. I love this amazing family!

  4. Tori’s attitude about things is terrible. She actually comes across as the person who wants to grab the attention on tv. She is loud and opinionated. But then she acts so insecure and whiny when she is actually asked to do something - play a game at a shower, stencil a board, choose a cake flavor, decorate a welcome poster for Bobby’s trailer. She wants everyone to do things for her. Does Tori ever do anything for others like her other sisters do? Tori went to college, actually studied some difficult subjects and graduated. She seemed self-assured and determined at that. But then she can’t distress a board? When I try to figure out her personality on this show, I can’t do it. I know all humans are complex, but Tori is an enigma. Is she gifted, lazy, insecure, self-assured? Does anyone here have a take on her?

    1. I have wondered all of this too. Ever since her wedding shower where she arrived late and then sat huddled and silent while opening gifts, I have been confused over her behavior. She never said one word to the guests or even looked at them, just opened the gifts as fast as possible without any reaction to at all. How would you feel as a guest who brought a gift? Then during her wedding ceremony, she began giggling uncontrollably, and I remember that Kelly and Gil looked worried, and I realized something like social anxiety must be the issue. This might be why Bobby is no longer a pastor and they moved back closer to her family. Anyway whatever she is dealing with, I feel sorry for her, having to perform on TV-- and of course, people like us analyzing her!

    2. I don't really like analyzing her in a public place where she can see it, but all of that could be explained by insecurity, possibly if she feels like she doesn't measure up to the other women in her family or because she is self-conscious about being on TV.

    3. Of course, viewers can only form opinions based on what we watch, but I understand what you're saying.

  5. 9:17Am. That's mean to say Tori is lazy, and insecure. You don't know her.

She probably helps her siblings out they just don't show on tv.

    1. Please read my post. I didn’t say she was lazy or insecure! I ASKED if she was lazy, insecure, self-assured, gifted. I wondered how others saw her. It’s harder for me to understand Tori, while it’s easier for me to figure out the other girls’ personalities.

  6. Just a curious thought, meaning no disrespect to any of the Bates ladies, but when they are doing these projects why don't they pin their hair back out of their way? I know they have beautiful hair but looks like it would be more practical to pin it up.

    1. They've had long hair all their lives. I'm sure they're used to it.

    2. Maybe they are wearing it the way they want to.

    3. They're on TV and want to look their best, and presumably they think leaving it loose makes them look their best. It's vanity.

    4. 6:33, they want to look their best. How awful.
