Flooring the Websters' House

John Webster and Alyssa Webster

"The simple lesson that we've tried to teach our kids all the way through was learn as many skills as you can while you're growing up. Then you become much more valuable to the people you serve, and so the kids have really taken hold of that."

-Gil Bates

Have you heard about Alyssa and John Webster's new house? They got a great deal, but the catch is that it is a major fixer upper. For many people, that would mean months of work, but when you have a super-sized family with tons of talent, things happen very quickly. And it helps that they live in beautiful Florida, so anyone who comes down to assist can also have a mini vacation.

  5. They did a great job....I'm still amazed that Alyssa was able to do so much just after giving birth.

  6. It's not really a mini-vacation to lay flooring (the boys) or watch toddlers (the girls).

    1. Haven't you ever heard of a working vacation?

    2. Sure it is. You are still getting away from your routine, and having fun with family. Work does not have to be drudgery or joyless. Watching your nieces who you don't get to see often is fun!

    3. I hope they pay the boys (and girls) something. Yes it’s a fun, family activity. But, it’s still doing a job for which someone other than family would be paying those kids. And, with that large a family, there is always babysitting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, moving, teaching work to be done. It never ends.

    4. I would not expect my family to pay me for watching nieces or nephews for something like this. That's what family is for, helping each other out.

    5. I wouldn't take money for helping family out. Sometimes you just do things for people because you love them.
