3 Bates in Haiti

Lawson Bates, Nathan Bates, Trace Bates

Three of the Bates sons--Lawson, Nathan, and Trace--are currently in Haiti doing relief work, on the heels of a 7.2-magnitude earthquake. They are working as part of a team, which also includes John-David Duggar, from the organization MEDIC Corps. The death toll in Haiti is already up over 1,200, and a tropical depression is expected to cause further destruction in the next 24 hours.

We know that these guys would appreciate prayer as they work to help the Haitian people.

  2. This seems a bit dangerous. The Bates and Duggars are most likely not vaccinated and present a danger to Haitian people who are already vulnerable. There should only be vaccinated personnel traveling to help.

    1. Why would you think that they’re most likely not vaccinated? I agree with you that only vaccinated people should be allowed in to help, and knowing these guys as I do, they feel the same way.

    2. Considering many in the Bates family had Covid the antibodies are there.

    4. Vaccinated people can spread it and get it too.

    5. Totally agree. Very few people in Haiti have been able to receive a vaccine. It's one more disaster waiting to happen.

    6. You have no idea if they are vaccinated. With all the traveling they do I would think they are vaccinated.

    7. It's not like they are introducing covid to Haiti. Covid is already there. Besides, some or all of them may have already had it and could have antibodies. The vaccine isn't the be-all and end-all.

  3. I remember pictures from one of their previous trips abroad for a humanitarian mission where they were using their police badges, as if they had some kind of power in another country. I hope they don’t do that this time.

    1. Maybe they were told to wear them so people knew they were there to help and not rob them. I doubt they would just put them on without someone instructing them to do so…. But I don’t see why it matters at all. They are putting themselves in danger to help others.

  5. Prayers just said for their safety and others also joining in on the rescue efforts.

  6. What in the world could they do? Donating money would be better. But less of an adventure for them.

    1. They are doing hands on work, not sitting behind a keyboard or phone.

    2. Do you know what is involved with helping people after an earthquake?

    4. 10:58, if you listen to the NPR clip, you can hear Nathan explain what they are doing.

  7. Jesus helped the poor and downtrodden; God bless L, N & T for following His example so faithfully as well as those they are trying to help.

  11. I think you met earthquake. I didn't realize until this morning there was an 6.0 aftershock two hours after the initial 7.2. How scary that is! I will be praying for the Haiti people and for the safety of the guys helping.

    2. Maybe Michaella can't go right now, Abbie has Gracie to take care of, and it's not the safest place to be right now.

    3. Really? How about Abbie decides what service for others that she does and when. How about Michaela decides what service for others that she does and when. You can decide what service for others you do and when.

  16. @8:22-Abbie has a little one at home and who knows, could be pregnant. I don’t think Michaela would leave her husband to help so far away.

    1. Michaels has left Brandon before He is an adult. I'm sure he'd make such a small sacrifice to help the Haitian people.

    2. @11:13-but would she leave him to help in Haiti is the real question?
