I Love You Day 2022

It's that time of year again. Time for the Bates' annual I Love You Day celebration! The clan is gathered in East Tennessee this weekend for the festivities. Last night was the couples' dinner, and today is the main event. For the costume contest, this year's theme is Bible characters.

  1. Are there any pictures or notes telling who dressed up as who from the Bible?

    1. If you fully read and understood the title write up, then you would know that this was taking place right while they posted this. And the poster was likely not present at the event as I’m pretty sure they aren’t one of the family. There’s bound to be pics at a later date.

  2. Bible characters like Jezebel? Cain? Herodias?

    1. CUUUYYYUUUUTTTTTEEEE! @3:24 I see what you did there!! You named characters from the Bible that you know the Bates probably would NOT have dressed up as! So fetch. I see you coming up with something quippy like that kept you up into the hours of the early morning. Get some rest 3:24.

    2. Don't forget Herod, the Pharaoh, and that character who shows up in Revelation.

  3. I thought I Love You Day was on Valentine's Day?
Give me a break with the bible characters already.

    1. They try to do it for Valentine’s, but obviously with that large a family it will be difficult for everyone to work it out on the same weekend due to their current schedules. And why are you asking for a break from the Bible characters? (as tho they’ve been doing that theme frequently)

    2. Really? If you don't approve, don't make nasty comments.

    3. Don't you know about the greatest love story in the world? John 3:16. God loves you so much, and I hope you will realize it.

    4. @6:29 Give you a break? You're free to have an opinion, but that doesn't mean they are relevant. This was a family event and you weren't invited.

  6. This activity is embarrassing. Why not just made a nice dinner and do a gift exchange? There’s no need for costumes other than posting pictures for publicity. JMO I’m not looking for a fight with those who love everything the Bates family does.

    1. It does seem a little much. Looks like they have a good time though. Social media has changed the planet.

    2. It's for fun, obviously.

    3. Why is it embarrassing? The family obviously loves the event and they love dressing up. If you don’t have anything nice to say you don’t have to say anything at all. You can always scroll on by.

    4. If they're embarrassed, they'd stop doing it.

    5. Costumes are fun and creative. Get over yourself and your negativity.

    6. This is their family tradition. THEIRS. Nobody said you have to like it. Every family has a certain thing they do when their together so your comment is rude. How hard is it to keep scrolling? The family is so spread out for the holidays and as Gil once said they get so much from family that they save Valentine's Day for their immediate family to celebrate and rejoice in one another. As parents Gil and Kelly adopted this tradition to ensure that the children children have a bond way past their childhoods. It's why they have them pick names. It makes them take the time to talk and get to know one another. It works because they are all close. If people bothered to watch they'd know that the themes are used as a way to teach the younger one's life lessons and the couples get great advice from those who came long before them.

  7. Wow! From Gangsters and Flappers to Bible characters this year. I loved the way they celebrated before they were famous. Shopping at the drug store for gifts and a home cooked family dinner.

  8. Really its Valentines just say it. Not any need to call your celebration something else.

    1. @_9:18Its their family and if they want to call it I Love You Day, then good for them! Good grief!

    2. 9:18 There isn't a need for you to tell other people how they should celebrate with their families. You do you and allow others the same.

    3. FYI, Alyssa came up with the renaming so it wasn't about just couples in love nearly fifteen years ago and it went from there. It includes parents, grandparents, close friends and especially to represent the love between siblings and they encourage each other. They were doing it when they had their first show and Jeb had just been born. If you don't like it that's fine, I just don't want to know your opinion on it. It doesn't effect you so why be so snippy about it? It's a great family so lay off.

  9. Why is I Love You Day late this year? Guess I will have to wait and see what the answer is in Carlin and Evan,Alyssa and John and Erin and Chad's vlogs. Cute idea on the Bible character costumes. It's a better theme than the past few years. Hope to see some pics soon.

    1. Considering the size of the family, it stands to reason that it's not easy to schedule events around everyone. The later date likely worked for them all, or at least most of them.

  15. In biblical times, they all dressed pretty much the same....tunics and sandals. How will they tell them apart?

  16. I don't understand how dressing up like characters or pretending to be old is necessary to show love for each other. Why do you need to go outside yourselves like that to show love or to honor your family? The costumes would be a distraction. Looks like more of a costume party than anything.

    1. I am not a card-carrying Bates' fan, but cut them some slack. It's called trying to have a bit of fun. I think they can dress up in costumes and show love for each other at the same time. They must all like it or they wouldn't do it.

      Delete
    2. Why would you think they think it's "necessary" when obviously it's something they enjoy for the fun of it?

    3. The Bates family are a strong Christian family and if the want to dress up as people from the Bible let them be. I loved watching that show and I miss them dearly.

  17. Let's see how well they do this year without a professional tv costume department dressing them for free.

    1. It must be tiring to wake up each morning with a negative mind set.
I still love to watch reruns of bringing Up Bates and I’m hoping another network will pick them up.
I bet there are hundreds of families…no make that thousands, who feel the same way.
Perhaps they will hop on this comment and add their voices to a Bring Back The Bates movement…

  19. I haven't read this blog in weeks, and the negativity is just unreal over a family event that looks like so much fun. It's a blessing to have family events.
