For those who haven't heard, Trace Bates is engaged to Lydia Romeike. Now that the Bates' show is off the air, viewers won't have the pleasure of meeting Lydia on TV, so she and Trace filmed a YouTube video to share how they became acquainted (link below). The pair was set up by Josie, and they only met last year.
Katie and Travis had such strict chaperoning. It doesn't seem like these two were chaperoned at all. I don't understand.
ReplyDeleteWhen discrepancies like this became apparent with the Duggars, they simply announced, "Everyone sets their own courtship rules." But that was after years of telling us the parents did. Same with pants wearing. They didn't wear pants until they very much did, so they changed the narrative to "it was always a personal choice."
DeleteThe way my family does it is literally choice of each person. When I was dating we always had a chaperone because we didn’t want any false accusations- not because we actually would do anything wrong.
DeleteBut my sister has no chaperones.
Maybe their family does this?? Or maybe it also depends on the family’s beliefs of the person they’re dating. Like Josie and Kelton kissed before marriage but Carlin and Evan didnt. I think the Stewart’s were more conservative than the Balkas and the Bates got to choose.
I don’t know for sure. But don’t you think their ages made a difference?
DeleteI agree; the chaperoning thing seems to have disappeared. It certainly hasn’t been filmed for Lawson and Tiffany or Nathan and Ester. Maybe it’s a double standard and only for the girls, now???
Delete11:46 Maybe Gil and Kelly have decided to stop pushing the rules since so many of the married ones drop the modesty guidelines, etc, immediately after the wedding anyway.
DeleteSo happy for you both! Your a beautiful couple and I see a very happy future in store for you! Congratulations on your engagement! God bless. 😊
ReplyDeleteIt was a sweet vlog and way to go Josie!
ReplyDeleteThese guys weren't chaperoned, really! Do they think the Bates boys are less likely to "break the rules" than the girls? Do they care less if the boys break the rules?
ReplyDeleteThe chaperone rules pertain only to their daughters because it is the girls who "have the babies". I always find it curious just how big of a deal they made the chaperone thing with their daughters but when the rules laxed or changed for their sons, no word was said about it. Hypocritical of them to do so, really... a silent change.
DeleteIt's the job of the parents to watch over their daughters. Maybe the parents of the girls the Bates men are dating don't follow that rule. Why do you all make it an issue?
DeleteJilly- So, the sons have better judgment and make better choices than the daughters do, and can therefore be trusted?
Delete8:25, they don't know the other guys as well as they know their sons. Not rocket science.
DeleteThe video was awesome. Lydia seems like such a sweet, kind person. Trace and her make a beautiful couple. Miss seeing your family each week. God bless you all.
ReplyDeleteThis might be my new favorite Bates couple! They are sweet, mature, and loving. Best of luck to them!
ReplyDeleteThe impression I have from the Bates is that they set their standards, but as their children get older at appropriate ages they don't Lord it over them, they let them choose. They have done a beautiful job keeping good relationships with each other.
