Trace and Lydia's Gender Reveal

Another little Bates boy is on the way! As they promised, Trace and Lydia Bates uploaded a video of their gender reveal to YouTube (link below). Family and friends, including some Duggars, got together to help the expectant parents set up for the party and celebrate their baby on the way. This announcement followed just days behind the news that Zach and Whitney Bates' fifth child is a girl.

    4. I heard about that. Erin and Chad sent their weekly devotional email and said no devotion this week because they had to travel to SC for her uncle's funeral at last minute. Prayers for Gil and Kelly Jo and Papa Bill and Mamma Jane losing their loved one.

  3. Congratulations to Trace and Lydia on a boy!πŸ‘ΆπŸ’™ I can't wait for them to be parents this Fall. Also can't wait to find out his name and if he will have a German name to honor Lydia's heritage.

    1. They were saying they had a boy's name picked a long time ago, when they were just dating. Lydia said it was in the middle (good and in English and in German), but not very German, so that kids would not bully the kid because of the unusual name.

    4. And what's wrong with the fireworks?? They are happy and celebrating.

    5. They really used fireworks? What a messy waste, and a fire hazard. They're outlawed in my area for good reason.

    6. Justine- There's such a thing as too much of a good thing. In a family this huge, it must be a full time job keeping up with celebrating all the engagements, wedding showers, weddings, pregnancy announcements, gender reveals and baby showers. How on earth did we old timers survive when we had to wait until the birth to know the gender!

      Delete
    7. @10:16 I know! And then the dad needed a pocket full of dimes so he could call everyone in the family from the hospital pay phone down the hall! Eventually you got around to snail-mailing announcements. Meanwhile, everything at the baby shower came in gender-neutral yellow or green or white. Kids today would go nuts with that system!

    8. So much more fun not finding out the gender.

    9. @8:47. Just because "so many people" have gender reveals, it isn't an excuse to follow a fad. It seems as though we have a whole generation who are obsessed with calling attention to themselves. "Look at me!" is the standard it seems. It really doesn't fall in line with any sense of modesty, if that's what these fundamentalist families still promote.

    10. Why are you so caught up on how things used to be? If parents had been able to find out their baby’s gender back in the day they probably would have as well. Also everyone complaining about the fireworks must not live in the south as they’re completely normal down here lol

      Delete
    11. @10:40 If parents had found out, they would have phoned their family and friends to spread the word. Phoned them from a rotary phone attached to the wall with a cord. Nobody would have set up an expensive backdrop, gathered a whole field full of people, shot off fireworks, and then posted it on a billboard for the public to see, I guarantee. As far as fireworks being normal in the south, no. They are illegal (for good reasons) in a lot of states, southern states included.

    12. I will never understand why some people begrudge others some fun and celebration.

      Delete
    13. @10:40- People are free to have opinions about what they see as over-the-top attention seeking and relentless fodder for social media posts. That's what it is- a photo op and a "look at me!" moment.

      Delete
    14. Nobody is begrudging them fun, just pointing out that what they're doing is over the top, as are all of the gender reveals (and engagement announcements). They've turned into crazy theatrical productions and for some unexplained reason the family thinks they're necessary. I'll bet if they'd never been on TV they wouldn't be doing this.

    15. @10:27, I personally don't think they are attention seekers, they just want a nice family gathering to celebrate, there is no gender reveal or baby showers here in Italy, people just bring presents when they visit you at your home the day you bring the baby home from hospital and they might not all come on that day they might come later, but when they come on that day they usually have a party or at least offer offer a platter of different foods and cakes which is a low key party and hang balloons or wreath on the door,so I suppose an attention seeker in Italy would just give an over the top party on that day which I have never been to so I don't know, but I think they would all find fireworks way over the top,but hey to each their own.

    16. If they weren't attention seekers they'd keep these videos to themselves. The point of posting them online is? Attention.

  6. I watched it and was confused because it looked like pink fireworks then blue smoke? And I didn’t hear anyone shout if it was boy or girl. It was actually really confusing when I watched it! Yep, don’t understand the whole gender reveal thing these days. Back in my day, I would just tell everyone what it was and not make people sit through another party

    1. I agree, it was so dark you couldn't tell that the powder was blue. I thought I was the only one who couldn't tell what was going on.

    2. I agree. The video was very dark. I couldn't really tell what was going on at the end. I thought they were having a girl until it was later said they were having a boy.

    1. The correct term is "party pooper." It's ok to say the word "poop." It's a natural bodily function that everyone does. We are not talking about puppies!

    2. @Justine Everyone's definition of love, fun, and excitement is different. But there's also the need to be respectful when you are having those. That means thinking of the safety and comfort of others and thinking about what you're doing and what sort of impact it has on both other people and the land. What commenters here are reacting to is how this kind of extravagant behavior comes across as very self-serving on the Bates' part, and disregards others as well as the environment. Hope that explains that.

    1. I think there was blue smoke or something. They said it's a boy though.

    2. The fireworks were blue it was just hard to tell over camera, the first ones that came out had no color, just the typical orange color from non-colored fireworks so I understand where the confusion came in

  12. I guess a simple text or note to friends and family that says "It's a boy" or "It's a girl" doesn't suffice these days. The more I see of these gender reveals, the more it's like a competition to see who can outdo others. I suppose it gives them something to film or post for social media and they make money that way.

    1. Gender announcements, prom-posals, engagement shoots, weddings.... It's all gotten way over the top, and then it has to be immediately posted to 6 different social media sites so it can get hundreds of validating responses. When did we become such a nation of attention-seekers? Older generation, thank you for not doing this. Younger generation, you could learn a thing or three from your elders.
